An Ecology of Care for People and Planet
We believe that caring for ourselves and caring for the Earth are not separate acts—they are part of the same ecology of care.
The
Origins
South Hands was born from the recognition that healing the planet will in part require healing people. When we have the capacity to rest, recover and reconnect, we are better equipped to care for the natural world and the communities around us.
Founded in 2026 by marine scientist Eve Sanders (BSc Hons, MRes), South Hands emerged from Eve's recognition of the growing burnout affecting those working across environmental science, academia and conservation. Working in these fields during a time of accelerating environmental change can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be emotionally and physically demanding. Inspired by her own experiences, Eve established the Wellbeing in Science Initiative to promote healthier, more sustainable approaches to research and researcher wellbeing.
Rooted in scientific evidence and a deep appreciation for the relationship between people and nature, South Hands was originally created to support those working in science, research and academia. Today, it welcomes anyone who shares a passion for protecting and restoring the natural world. Through therapeutic practice, South Hands seeks to cultivate active hope, strengthen our emotional connection with local ecosystems, and help people find the resilience and energy to care for the places they love - without burning themselves out
Ethos
Eve combines her extensive background in marine and freshwater biology with her training at the highly regarded London School of Massage to create restorative experiences inspired by the natural world. Her treatments blend evidence-informed approaches to nervous system regulation with sensory elements including touch, natural soundscapes (biosonification) and carefully selected organic aromas to encourage deep relaxation and reconnection with nature. Rooted in rigorous science while embracing the holistic experience of wellbeing, South Hands supports the physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of those working to protect our planet's future

What I can help with
At South Hands, wellbeing is viewed through an ecological lens. I understand how deeply stress, emotional pressure, and working within the environmental sector can affect both the body and mind. Many clients arrive carrying tension for far longer than they realise - physically, emotionally, and energetically.
Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, living with eco-anxiety, struggling with stress/difficult scenarios at work, or simply in need of time to slow down and feel supported, each treatment is tailored to your individual needs. You'll be welcomed with infused water featuring seasonal locally foraged herbs and treated with nourishing organic natural oils - both of which will be tailored to your reason for booking.

The Science
"Traditional scientific working methodologies often lead to burnout and are far from sustainable. I see science as a process of curiosity, exploration, and discovery. It’s about asking meaningful questions, exploring the unknown, and contributing new knowledge. I think this sense of playfulness and intellectual curiosity is what attracts many people to science in the first place."
